ABB supports Beijing Fengtai Railway Station retrofit

Recently, ABB announced that it provided a leading low voltage distribution solution for Beijing Fengtai Railway Station, ensuring the safe and smooth operation of the electrical system. When the project is completed, Beijing Fengtai Railway Station will be closely integrated with other major railway stations and metro lines in Beijing, utilizing the transportation structure in the capital, and it will become the key node of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei cluster.

The total construction area is 757,000 square meters, which is composed of 400,000-square meter new station building, and the number of maximum assembling passenger could reach to 14,000 people. The new Fengtai Railway Station is the first one to adopt high-speed railway and general-speed railway stereo double layout in China. 17 platforms and 32 lines in total connect Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing-Yuanping Railway, Beijing-Kowloon Railway, Fengtai-Shacheng Railway, Jing-Shi Intercity Railway, etc. Supporting facilities, including back-turning section, passenger car servicing depot, motor vehicle application, covers 357,000 square meters. This new railway station plans to be opened to traffic at the end of 2021.

The operation of railway networks involves the safety of thousands of passengers, and the safety and reliability of the power supply system play a crucial role in it. Featuring optimized design, ABB’s distribution solution contains leading components and ensures the power availability and smooth operation of the rail system.

In the Beijing Fengtai Railway Station retrofit solution, ABB adopted Emax2 air circuit breaker, new Tmax XT MCCB (Molded Case Circuit Breaker), and other electrical products. Emax2 and Tmax XT both have excellent new generation of Ekip trip units, featuring its compact structure. The technology could provide low voltage electrical distribution network for overload, short-circuit, ground fault, and indirect electric shock protection, and it could support building an electrical system with better performance and prevent potential risks.

James Zhao, lead business manager of ABB Electrification Business Area in China, said China is promoting the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and advocating resource sharing and mutual complementarity between cities, which in order to achieve common prosperity and regional circular economy. The transportation network integration is crucial to realize the goal. ABB measures the pulse of the times, positively engages digitalized techniques, and creates a leading electrification solution applying to railway stations, base stations, and trains at the same time. The solution allows railway infrastructure to improve efficiency and ability to the next level and helps to create a safer, more comfortable, and greener commuting environment for passengers.
